The latest additions to the world’s largest online dictionary, among 6,000 others, show how much internet culture is changing the English language.
- it always amuses me when people complain about stuff like this - words that people use are being put in the big list of words that people use??? oh noes!!! - “aint aint a word and I aint gonna say it” - According to my grandmother her grandmother used to chastise folks for using the word ain’t, all I gotta say to that is ain’t that a kick in the head.
- You flamdrabs…The flarnibulous sprockle will wumble the glibberflats if you don’t snorp - guess they should add these words because someone said em. - The idea is if a lot of people use those words in a definable way, it would be good to define them somewhere

- There should be a time limit for the addition of new words. If a word can sustain, let’s say, 10 years of use then it can be put down for all of eternity. We have an urban dictionary for most nonsense words. - Took a helluva long time for ain’t and y’all to make it into the big book o words. - I don’t get why modern slang is being thrown in so fast. - New hires at the dictionary companies are bored.

- Without proper steering, English is being driven by vapid influencers and not linguists. People complain about inconsistencies a lot, and yet more arbitrary additions by someone seeking relevance is how we ‘progress’ forward. It’s like a kangaroo driving a bus.
- It makes them more “real.” Official, like. - It’s silly anyway. They put “jiggy” in there back in the 90’s and nobody uses that word at all anymore. In 10-20 years, will we still see/hear these? 🤷♂️ - I definitely have said “gettin jiggy” at least once in the last two years. Maybe ironically, but it is part of my vernacular.

- I still don’t know what those words mean - Skibidi is literally listed as a nonsense word, so it essentially has no meaning! - Like, brainless filler, innit, knowotImean?

- Delulu means delusional I think. - Skibidi I have no clue. Maybe “I spend too much time on tiktok” ? - Wikipedia’s article about it seems to be written by someone living under a rock. Six years ago Little Big released the song Skibidi. - Well as a nonsense sound in music it’s way older than that, right? Like Scatman John used it a whole bunch. The notability of it recently is that is started to be used more like a normal word, even if there’s still not much of a meaning
- I’m pretty sure the modern usage comes mostly from skibidi toilet.

- That’s very ohio of them
- I always thought “skibidi” meant “that’s all folks”. Fuck I’m old. - “Skibidi skibidi skibidi… That’s all, folks!” - Porky Pig - Exactly!

- I’ve never heard of delulu before. Sure I may not know what skibidi is but at least I’ve heard of it. Made me think of labubu - Me neither. Looked it up and it is short for delusional, for anyone else that doesn’t know
- How haven’t you heard of delulu? I predates the internet? - Idk it just never came up. Also, why would they wait so long to add that word if it’s so ancient? - Wasn’t as popular as now. More of a valley girl or Clueless kind audience used it

- I also don’t exactly know what it means. I have heard it in a song lyric or two, but have never known someone to say it in conversation.

- After reading the comments, no one knows skibidi.
- Also “tradwife.” 🫤 - You want wife trade?

- Sigh. It’s a sad day. - Why?
