The Screencap almost made me think this was an early 90s game.
Data also has the ultimate poker face.
More evidence of how goody-two-shoes the crew is, they never cheat. These are people who would die to not kill someone who is trying to murder them. Intentional and great world building.
Geordi outright told them he looks at the cards, but only after the hand is over. I would still argue that counts as cheating since it lets him get a better idea for when the others are bluffing.
He did one game, but advised Worf to get cards that are opaque.
Perhaps, though if he admitted it to the crew and they’re ok with it, it’s not necessarily in the spirit of cheating.
Data should pretty much never lose though. Someone over at reddit Daystrum Institute has done several write ups of why the poker doesn’t make any sense most of the times we see it
There is no best strategy for unlimited poker. But how to play that game in a world without money?
I’d imagine it’s like Penny Poker, you do it for fun using basically worthless chips to represent your score so to speak
Yeah the “money” is just points like lots of games have.
If only we could agree such ideals make us stronger as a species, least be honest with each other… And hopefully others if we get to meet them.
Not “most likely”. He can definitely see through the cards since he mentions it to Worf in an episode. He only does it after the hand is played but even that could be considered cheating since he might be able to tell what your bluffs look like.
I wonder how difficult it would be to craft an omniscient AI that could pretend to be obtuse enough to enjoy playing a game of chance with?
(I’m sure somebody has pondered this at length and is ready to fill me in)
If Geordi can see through the cards, then he can also see through their clothes…
Just sayin’
I’m… fairly certain he couldn’t make out the details.
I like to think the mini menu in the lower center is a mid 2ks share bar for Myspace, Tumblr, Twitter, etc.
Murderbot style TV downloads, porn, Reading Rainbow
Do you think Geordi is as big of a fan of The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon that Murderbot is?
Hell yes. I mean of course
JWST can swap which wavelengths they are looking at. You’re telling me Geordi can’t?
He probably just has to hit a button and it goes to ir or x-ray or EHF.
In one episode he claimed that he got all the wavelengths at once, compressed through the visor so that his brain could handle it, and that he had to just focus really hard to filter out extraneous ones. He compared it to trying to follow a single conversation in a noisy room (think a bar or club or something). So I guess maybe he could have spent a bunch of time as a teen focusing on that specific wavelength?
Why do you think he prefers to keep the visor instead of the surgery? It was only because of the lawsuit that he got them later in the movies. 🙃
We talking about the character or the actor?
Character…
Pretty sure he can see through their skin.
Oh that’s definitely cheating
Geordi can’t cheat, because he’s always single.
This comment was a violation of the Prime Directive.

I hear he also makes a mean omelet.
A chef is only as good as his ingredients!
You don’t count cards in poker. That’s blackjack
With his hands and then every card revealed he can in fact count the cards and calculate the probability. As well as profile every players past games and day to day life.
But he could analyze the shuffle in real time and know the order of the cards.
imperfect shuffling
The man takes risks on the reg, just to feel something.
Every fucking time he ends up as (temp) captain it’s some huge gamble
When he ends up commanding the ENT-D he always ends up losing control of the ship
No one loses control of the D like Riker.
Riker: My D… It’s out of control!
Are you implying that they are letting him win?!
He’s the boss. Of course they let him win.
Wesley was right?
You shut your mouth.

The best player unless Crusher is at the table.
Is Data playing, though, or just dealing?
data is usually also playing, theres a whole episode where he finds out what bluffing is
Is he dealing or is he just coping?
Everything we that’s learned from others is copying. Data just learns how to copy faster.
Is he coping or just surviving?
Is he just surviving or eye-of-the-tigering?
Is he eye of the tigering or subconsciously stacking the deck to pass a message to himself in future iterations of a temporal causality loop?
Is data an AI that everyone hates?
He’s an AI that only 1 person seemed to hate. And she wasn’t around long.
