  • I see all these posts/comments about meetings that are obnoxiously inefficient, and I’m so sorry for everyone who has to deal with them; it’s almost completely foreign to me

I work medical, and our meetings are usually reps teaching us about some new or revamped devices… but they gather us on-shift to listen to a 5 min schpiel and have us sign a paper. If I’m busy, too bad and you can try and catch me next time. If I get called mid-teaching… my name is signed, and nobody cares. If I somehow miss it entirely… oh well, guess it’s on me now to learn any changes. We have one formal review per year that takes all of 10 minutes. Maybe 2 or 3 formal meetings per year… and if I can’t make it, doesn’t matter

I already hate the few meetings we have, as is; and I’m only “required” to go to one per year… and it’s maybe 10 minutes. Or I can dodge it, and just say “my bad” (though not a good look for you). I simply can’t imagine being constantly pulled away for bullshit… and I guess I’m grateful for that

Granted, my job has it’s own special flavor of hell and I should’ve been an electrical engineer. But all the lack of meetings involved makes me feel a little bit better; as penance for the other rampant bullshit I have to deal with

These meetings y’all speak of — I just can’t imagine how antsy and aggravated I would be to have to attend such idiotic fluff that “could’ve been an email”. Fuck, I can even ignore my emails with almost no recourse. Kudos to y’all for getting through it, cause I’d really rather not. Let me work, leave me alone, and then I go the fuck home; that’s all I want

  • Not trying to lessen your point, but people do be dying from sepsis all of the time still. Granted, we do have way better treatment and protocols, but it’s a fast killer if not caught in time and a lot of different things can cause sepsis

But polio, for sure way better. Never seen anyone with polio before irl

Also stroke treatment. Wayyyy better now than before. We didn’t really have anything except aspirin until the 90’s, and now we’re straight up removing the clots from the brain (when we can). It’s kind of wild how much stroke treatment has improved in 30 years

  • You shift your body subconsciously all of the time, especially while sitting/lying down; this naturally prevents bed sores

If you’re at risk of developing bed sores from wrinkly sheets, then you probably won’t have the strength to make your bed every day. Bed sores are more frequent with neuropathy, weakness, altered mental status etc; but for the average healthy folk… no, wrinkly sheets won’t (significantly) increase your risk for bed sores

Underlying conditions (acute or chronic) are the reasons for bed sores. You can have a perfectly smooth bed, but if you’re not making subtle weight shifts, you’ll get a bed sore

I work weekends, so it’s hard for me to attend weekday stuff. But I took off of work on a Saturday to protest, because we need people out there. So I say do it on the weekdays too, and have people call-in to work to go

Peaceful disruption by having mass call-ins on protest days; because it matters and it makes the protests harder to ignore when people aren’t going into work every time a protest happens. Keep it happening, and keep the pressure up. I can’t afford a vacation anyway, so I’ll save my PTO to get out there and call-in to work whenever

My time off is my time off, don’t matter why. I’m calling-in because it’s none of their business. It’s just a “sick day” cause I’m fucking sick (of the atrocities being normalized and the utter disintelligence spreading like wildfire)

Smaller protests are fine, cause people can’t afford to be at every single one. But everyone can afford to be at as many as possible. Than you have a constant force that’s more likely to crest

  • Well, you just saved me a bunch of time trying to figure out how to auto-update my humble little server. Granted, I only have Plex and Samba Share right now, but I like the principle. Hell, an update once blanked my smb config file for whatever reason

Now auto-backups are another thing; because I would like to use a .tar file, but then it leads me down a rabbit hole because I don’t know how to repair Grub if needed for a restore, or what Grub really even is vs Bios… I’ve just been learning as I go

I’m a few weeks away from getting a couple parts for an upgrade, and then it’ll be some fun. I want to redo it from scratch and maybe set up proxmox and change my file system to zfs, then start looking at docker, figure out Jellyfin and look at some ARR stuff… maybe tailscale or headscale. Idk, it’s just fun cause it’s a hobby. I just haven’t had the storage or ram really, but soon
