I’m homeless (working on it, have a few interviews coming up) and I noticed that there was a mutual aid community located in hexbear. Do I need to make another account or can I use this one to make a post there? Also if there’s a loan/borrow community let me know.
Lemmy.world has hexbear blocked. This is why I have a lemmy.today account. It’s general purpose and they make it a point to not block other instances, which is helpful for when I want access to all the communities.
I thought Lemmy.today was one person with fifty accounts.
I don’t think you can even see the communities to post in them with a Lemmy.World account due to the defederation. But then again, some apps let you manually enter the community you’re posting to directly from the post button and I don’t know if that would work. IIRC, Hexbear also defederated from Lemmy.World so that might not work either.
Once a community is de-federated from your instance you may be able to post to it, but it’s the mirror of that community on your current instance not the real community. So nothing you post will go to that outside instance and nothing posted there comes in.
On Mbin, I believe this is something that is being looked at (so we would know), maybe lemmy.world also?

Why not go to local irl groups? I can’t imagine a few strangers spread out across the globe can help much

I think that community is only meme responses I can’t remember the last time I saw them give any money or anything useful.

You don’t even need an account if you go straight to the instance and how else would I know it’s all meme responses?
I’m not sure if you realize, but the meme responses are to bump the post activity and increase visibility. I’ve personally fulfilled a handful of requests there and often the op doesn’t update the post, which I personally don’t care about - people are struggling and I’m happy to chip in. As it happens, I’ve given to this particular user twice.
Join mander.xyz, To all their own, but I think it’s really stupid to defederate with any community, and Mander does not defederate.
