‘Anarcho-capitalism’ is basically an oxymoron. You can’t have a capitalist society that is anarchist (=without a hierarchy) because capitalism inherently creates a hierarchy of some sort.

    This is not quite genuine.

Anarcho-capitalists generally don’t like corporations, either, they just believe that the state plays a crucial role in keeping them afloat, through patents, bailouts, and corruption. They commonly believe that without the state, the markets will generally revert to many small individual actors.

This is unlikely to be true, however, as the economies of scale by themselves heavily reward massive corporations, and private police and military will likely allow them to stronghand their opponents.

If we are serious about promoting left-wing ideas, we should take our opponents as they are, and not build strawmen for ourselves to ridicule.

I was always ideologiclly left libertarian and wasn’t old enough or smart enough to realize that the right-wing commentators reccommended by YouTube’s algorithim weren’t consistant with my views. They really wanted us to hate minorities and women for some reason. They would lie and/or cherry-pick data to make their fucked-up world view sound reasonable.

I felt like such a goddamn idiot when I realized I was made the fool by absolute human trash like Milo Yiannopoulos, Gavin McInnes, Charlie Kirk, and Blaire White. I think this video is what finally snapped me out of it. I don’t know if this video is any good. I haven’t watched it in quite a while.

I’d like to think I’m a lot wiser now and less likely to trust, for better or worse. I still feel pretty guilty about that period of my life but I was young and impressionable I guess. In high school I had a gay, punk rocker friend (now identifies as a trans woman) who put up with me for some reason. Why, I’ll never understand. She said “If it was anyone else making those jokes I’d be concerned” or something to that effect.

I eventually realized I aligned ideologiclly with socialism and communism (not the tankie kind). Just last week I learned who Hasan Piker is and I’ve been watching him alot. Also happy to see iDubbbz is woke now. Anyway I’m in a much better place now and always working on improving myself.

I’d be happy to answer any follow-up questions.

And any possible pseudo government has to compete on the free market with all other possible pseudo governments, just like feudal lords used to compete with each other. You have to trust in the invisible hand that this is, in fact, a good thing

I’ve met ONE person that may be described as a type of AnCap who wasn’t either, but he was also pretty open about the idea of lynching the owner class if they got too stupid. Also he wanted to prevent corporations from existing at the barrel of a gun, frankly speaking he was closer to a particularly crazed Anarcho Syndicalist than anything else.

The only person I knew who really ate the Ayn Rand onion has fully gone off the rails. Last I spoke with him, he said the nurses kicked him out of the hospital where his wife was giving birth and was threatened with arrest if he returned. Also he voted for Trump. I’m still not sure how he reconciled that thought process.

Yeah the guy I knew wasn’t an Ayn Rand weirdo, his dad apparently was but was stupid and basically created the only thing even close to a functional AnCap I’ve ever heard of. Once ya mix in Rands bullshit there is usually a notable degree of crazy and stupidity. They also tend to be weirdly aggressive.

You just need to be smart and figure out a way to exploit others. That’s how these ancap startup founder people think. They believe in a primitive, strength based societal hierachy. They are empathy-less assholes who strive to become the biggest asshole in the jungle.

Lol, I worked for one these assholes once. He bought the small public accounting firm I started my career at.

He loved to go on and on about “business is a warzone, you must be ruthless” bullshit, liked to make it really hard to get any PTO approved or obtain new hires.

Before he came along, I had built an entire database for that business even though my job role did not require it, simply because I got tired of doing things the stupid way and the previous owner made it worth my while.

One day, the asshole new owner pissed me off when I asked for time off to go camping and denied it citing business first, so I simply resigned on the spot and took off to the mountains. He was like “you can’t fault me for putting the business first” and I was like “whatevs, I’m putting myself first”.

Stupid motherfucker called me all week, dozens of times each day, because nobody but me knew how the fuck you build and maintain a database.

My coworkers, who are still my friends to this very day ten years later because they are awesome, regaled me with tales of the clusterfuck that ensued after my departure. Turns out, it’s really hard to find someone with an accounting and a computer science degree.

I still cackle to this day.

It’s nuanced due to the nature of the work, so the gravity of the situation would only really stand out to those in the public accounting industry.

For example, we provided payroll services for dozens of construction companies in the area receiving federal grant money, and that payroll could not be completed in time without me.

Before I created the database, client contacts, client billing, project status, and client login credentials to reporting portals & financial institutions were being tracked in an unsecured Excel spreadsheet (as is tradition). I built a database in MS Access and it was pretty straightforward. The owner ended up hiring his nephew who was studying CS, but since he didn’t have much experience or an accounting background, he was of little help.

There was further worsening as my colleagues started leaving for other opportunities, whom he replaced with questionable people until the firm was sold about a year or two later.

We used to refer to him as detestable Michael Scott, as he was always blundering and blaming others for problems he caused.

And herein lies the core of the issue of “business is a warzone/you need to be ruthless”

It’s in the business’ best interest to treat their employees well

The thing capitalism has is, it offers ordinary people the possibility of getting rich. All you have to do is sign up like in olden times by joining the crew of a pirate ship that can use an extra hand. With a little luck you might find yourself a fat slow treasure laden ship and all you have to do is take the loot.

Plenty of clever boys at well-funded public schools have an ancap phase. Most of them grow out of it.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Nah bro! You see, I’ll be invested in the corporations so their success is my success, and furthermore the market forces that definitely won’t be manipulated by the most powerful players will ensure that things are so much better, and the illegitimate use of violence has never occurred in the history of private enterprise ever, and they’re also making plenty more land and natural resources so duplicating efforts is not problematic, and separate will be as equal as people can afford, and we’re definitely also all starting from a place of utter fairness! Like, if anything I’m starting from behind! My allowance is only 100 bucks a week and Eddy down the street makes 200 with his job at McDonald’s!!!
