It might be dumb but I’m proud of myself. I did this to my off the rack Ibanez AZES40:

  • Installed graphite string trees
  • installed locking tuners
  • polished frets
  • moisturized fretboard
  • set pickup height
  • lowered the action
  • intonated
  • changed the strings (obviously)

    Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s especially satisfying when you have the confidence to do work to your friends’ guitars and have them be super happy afterward. Keep it up!       I had to raise one of my strings back up because it was buzzing and it took a lot longer than I expected to dial in my pickup height.

        Like others have said, congrats. If the buzzing remains an issue and you want the action lower, you may have a couple options, but 1st make sure the truss rod is adjusted properly, you should have around 12 thou at the 7th fret with a capo on the 1st and fretting the last fret. You can cheat this a little if you want but you do want a slight bow to the neck, you don’t want it perfectly flat despite what logic would tell you. Also check that the nut slot for the offending string didn’t wear in too far, or maybe you have an out of level fret. I get how this can sound daunting and that’s why people make money doing setups. If it’s playing well for you though, I’d say leave it. Once it’s set, unless there’s some kind of event, you change tinings drastically or change string gage, all you should ever really need from this point on is minor truss rod adjustments.
