Hey y’all, just wanted to link to one of the most helpful sites I used when I was first switching over to Wayland.

Cool list! On linux I mostly use alternatives to the popular projects when I dislike something about them. That’s not the case for X. I never had a problem, it does everything I want, it doesn’t have millions of features I don’t use and every program(?) supports it. I’m going to try Wayland in the next days, but what makes it worth using over X? Btw I am not interested in features of X compositors

I originally switched bc I had a Surface Pro and Wayland has better support for touch screens. There’s also less security issues with Wayland (because of X’s network protocol system) if thats a major concern for you. Its being more actively developed than X, and I personally found it to be very stable and don’t see any reason to switch. I do have an AMD card so mileage will vary if you use Nvidia. I heard it’s not as good for games, but I haven’t had any problems with it, and things like Teams and screen sharing not really working are not a big priority for me because I dual boot Windows for work and “big” games. I have had some trouble with scaling in the past, everything works fine now but it’s a bit harder than X.

Also it’s pretty easy to switch between an X and Wayland session so you can easily compare things for your own use case.

That are good reasons, but don’t really relevant for my usage. Afaik Wayland forced vsync in the past which would be bad for some gaming scenarios.

In the mean time I tried Wayland, by simply starting Hyprland on another tty. It runs well on my old laptop, but the second program (surf) that I tried errored. I will try Wayland some more in the future, but I will probably not switch in the near future

This link has inspired me to switch to Wayland. I was like “Let me check this link”. And when I saw that everything is ready, I was like “Let’s switch to Wayland because why not!”. I will post my new dwl setup very soon…
