Hosting Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Trump brushed off the murder of a journalist by Saudi agents, saying, “Things happen.” Fighter jets and investment deals are on the leaders’ agenda today.

One of Trump’s most persistent habits is to peel the mask of the Neoliberal Deep State and reveal the beating heart of Fascism beneath. Every other President would issue weasel words, parade about in defiance, and then quietly bend the knee to the Saudi Prince behind closed doors. Trump slaps MBS on the back and says “Killing journalists is based” right there on national TV.
If you’re implying that, except for the facade, Trump is no different than his predecessors, you’re delusional.
There are degrees of criminality, corruption and pure evil. Trump is worse in every regard.
“An extreme point on the same continuum” does not mean “the same.”
So much of the existing Trump Regime is simply couched within the “Unitary Executive” established under Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush. What he is able to do is a direct consequence of the accumulated policies of prior administrations.
If you think Operation Dirtbag is meaningfully different than Operation Wetback, you’re just coasting on recency bias. The US has a long and storied history of unleashing its military, paramilitary, and vigilante agents on minority groups and immigrant communities. This is horrifying to you because it is on your TV every day, rather than in your history textbook a few times back in grade school.
Well . . That’s . . . good?
Wait.
