I know this is typically a meme community, but in the Trek spirit, I’m sharing what is a pretty rare, new Mr. Plinkett video from the folks over at RedLetterMedia!

if you’re not familiar with RedLetterMedia, they’re not only great film reviewers, but they love Star Trek. they’ve been around for 15+ years and do tons of all kinds of videos, especially reviews of Trek stuff that’s always both well-made and also hilarious, namely the famous Mr. Plinkett reviews.

here’s a playlist containing some of the craziest Plinkett reviews (including his Trek reviews, his Star Wars reviews, and others). There are many, many more, plus RLM’s many, many years of videos for their shows Half in the Bag, Best of the Worst, re:View, and others. They’re one of, if not my favorite, YT crew, as they’re serious and insightful while being very well-educated in film and tv production, while also being massive geeks, trek and SW fans, and extremely funny.

their Picard reviews are awesome. Honestly, the worse the material is, the better their videos are. They tear that show to fucking shreds, and, when it gets to S03, they really give it the credit it’s due.

it’s a whole crew, and only a few of them are die-hard Trek fans, and they kinda make fun of one or two of the others who aren’t. it’s really fun how good of friends they all are (they’re all in their 40s now, but have been close friends since high school). The rapport they have is nice.

Also, sometime Macauly Culckin stops in to review films with them. They became friends somehow.

Aah they didn’t include the sound mistakes. Anybody got that clip of season 1 where the ramp on the bridge sounds like they are walking on a piece of wood (cause they are)?

if you comment about this on the YT video, you may get a response from them, lol

Mike (who does the Mr. Plinkett character) is a ST geek on the level of a lot of us here, has replied to me on YT a couple of times when I pointed out mistakes or oversights in previous YT videos. He’s pretty friendly, and they’re a good bunch. In fact, Mike and RLM’s twitter handle are famously blocked by William Shatner due to some silly misunderstanding/dispute. As a result of this dumbness, it was soon thereafter revealed that Shatner’s Twitter isn’t run by him (not a surprise) but by some publicist he gave carte blanche to and has been wildly misrepresenting him online for years. Shatner eventually got wind of this, and almost fired him over it, telling him to tone it down for making him look bad, all because some RLM fans raised a stink about it to Shatner at a convention, lol. Whaat it was really all about is Shtner’s publicist snubbing RLM years ago when they asked for an interview, and the publicist (as Shatner) replying with “I don’t do podcasts” (which RLM isn’t) and then Shatner appearing in a actual (shitty) podcast days later.

      Anyway…

I never noticed a single one of these when I was a kid growing up watching these episodes and I’m not sure I’d notice any of these now if I hadn’t seen this. ST:TNG has been ruined forever now.

It’s because you had a crappy tube TV. HD TV is the reason they retired all the distinguished women in news.

I’ve watched Mr Pinketts videos many times, one of my first repeat watching of long YouTube videos, looking forward to checking this one out. They are always very entertaining and humourous.

This was pure joy to watch.

I still remember watching TNG with those nitpickers books.

RLM need to continue pumping out more season reviews, and then move onto DS9, VOY, ENT as well.
