I was feeling pretty cocky about my skills until this happened.

      Hahaha no way.

Is it pronounced the same, with the same etymology and it just got used as a slang for erection?

A “Latte” (uppercase L) is the German word for a slat/bar/narrow plank, usually made from wood (compare “morning wood” - “Morgenlatte”).

“latte” is written the same, pronounced the same, but is just Italian for milk.

The first usage is way older than the (availability of) the beverage.
