    I’d say that the vast majority of content shared on Lemmy originates from elsewhere, and rarely ever from the source. Generally, it tends to follow a path like Facebook -> Reddit -> Instagram -> Reddit -> Facebook then finally to Lemmy all while being compressed and often shared by screenshots along the way. It’s a big reason why image quality is always awful, even though it really takes mere seconds to reverse image search and find the original or at the very least a decent quality copy.

      You imply Facebook has original content. Everyone knows only tumblr and 4chan are capable of original thought

        I’ve traced quite a few posts to Facebook in my searches for the original copy, since people rarely do that themselves. But that was just an example, not a hard rule.
