World News@lemmy.world•Bolsonaro sentenced to 27 years in prison for plotting Brazil coupEnglish
4·3 months agoThe right wing is still powerful over there. The Supreme court judge who voted to acquit bolsanaro is still a member of the court. All it takes is a broken judiciary to enable fascism. And Brazil could easily go in that direction again if the fascists win control again.

Technology@lemmy.world•"Very dramatic shift" - Linus Tech Tips opens up about the channel's declining viewershipEnglish
1·4 months agoEven fun videos get search traffic from random queries. A video about robots fighting each other will get traffic from people interested in “robots fighting”, “robots wars”, “robowars”, “armored core”, “Gundam series”
When there are ai summaries for informational or navigational queries there will be fewer clicks because Google will pirate listicle sources of “best robots fighting each other articles”. This means they are stealing from older lists and newer videos will not get mentioned in the ai summary.
This is because ai technology can’t judge the quality of a video.

Technology@lemmy.world•"Very dramatic shift" - Linus Tech Tips opens up about the channel's declining viewershipEnglish
151·4 months agoLLMs are doing things like summarizing videos and then using the summaries to answer queries that before would have been a search result with monetization.
Google’s executives are unconcerned about the declinibg incentives to create YouTube videos having been sold on the lie that the future of the internet lies in Ai generated content. In other words robots will make the internet.
Robots which hallucinate constantly.

News@lemmy.world•Trump says he plans unconstitutional executive order to mandate ID for voters
3·4 months agoThats the scam: they know most Americans support basic voter id requirements and dont read the news. So Americans would tacitly support a national voter ID requirement (which itself violates the constitution) without realizing that it would prevent many women from voting. Voter ID laws are a Trojan horse for rolling back democratic controls on fascism.

News@lemmy.world•Trump says he plans unconstitutional executive order to mandate ID for voters
2·4 months agoThey would never lose again if they did roll out a federal voter ID law:
They could at will pass federal laws that disenfranchise anyone who votes against their agenda.

News@lemmy.world•Trump says he plans unconstitutional executive order to mandate ID for voters
10·4 months agoMuch less than 1%. Voter Fraud is so rare that it has no impact on elections. However the Republicans have been trying to pass a federal voter ID law (the SAVE act) which creates substantial barriers for married women who changed their last name from voting. The additional barriers will destroy democracy.
If you are high af sometimes you will be eating something but you won’t remember where it came from. Like they cut from the top deck of the ship to the galley and wtf the sandwich is already made? Thats a stoner not remembering that he made a sandwich and then hallucinating that the dog leaned through a porthole and stole it

World News@lemmy.world•Japan and South Korea hope to be friends againEnglish
8·4 months agoWe can only hope. The Japanese royal family has acknowledged to be directly descended from one of the three kingdoms of ancient korea. Their kingdom crumbled under attack and there was a mass exodus to Japan. Later Korean soldiers would attack Japan twice under the banner of the khanate. And Japan would attack Korea under hideyoshi. There has never been friendship between Korea and Japan although the japanese royals are ethnically koreans
His super-canine “puppy power” level of strength was the only truly supernatural phenomenon that was demonstrated during the series (at least initially) primary run.

World News@lemmy.world•German welfare state 'can no longer be financed' — MerzEnglish
1·4 months agoI should have recognized your point. Yes you are right. But I believe that the individual politicians inside of cdu csu sdp fdp etc as well as the bureaucrats inside of the state security apparatus believed that not countering russian propaganda would cleave the left and this may have backfired. Because it is strange that they outed afd as an obvious russian front but not bsw. Ex posto facto reasoning on my part but the other expla ation for the lack of action is that the German intelligence service truly believes that bsw is not a russian front or they think there’s nothing illegal about russia operating a fake politician party.
But again I’m a foreigner who doesn’t understand the German political system.
Im the usa though they did the same thing when they uncovered a russian influence campaign. They looked the other way and let it all go down (for the most part)

World News@lemmy.world•German welfare state 'can no longer be financed' — MerzEnglish
1·4 months agoI am an outsider who only lived there a long time ago but it looks to me like the party was highjacked by neoliberals in order to split the vote. As far as I can tell German intelligence should have cracked down on both bsw and afd as soon as evidence emerged that they were part of a russian influence campaign. However the neoliberals instead ignored bsw’s russian support… this seems to be an obvious attempt to split leftist parties in half. Die linke is one of the last remaining leftist parties in the g7 outside of france. italy’s m5s is the other. And these parties seem to be losing to the right because the neoliberals sabotage them at every opportunity

Spd is a right leaning party no I’m talking about die linke
Edit: oops bsw is a russian support operation not a neoliberal party. I apologize for that mistake

World News@lemmy.world•German welfare state 'can no longer be financed' — MerzEnglish
51·4 months agoIts crazy to me that the only left leaning party in Germany was split by internal divisions between neoliberalism and progressive politics. How was that even possible when more than half of Germany’s voters are left leaning?
Not deep fried in vegetable oil or lard and much healthier for you while costing less afaik.

science@lemmy.world•Red meat wreaks havoc on gut and drives inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in study on miceEnglish
7·4 months agoThey ate protein moderately and only enough to satiate their appetite. But if they were using storage methods ranging from hot springs to drying and fermentation they were eating red meat daily for months. Remaining meat was given to dogs (which eat unlimited amounts of protein). Fat was what humans ate in vast quantities. They’d go to extreme lengths to eat all sources of fat and marrow.
Although this study though doesn’t make quite the same point that you’re making.
The researchers artificially caused IBD in the mice by injecting them with a compound that damages their mucosal layer in the gut.
So what they’re saying is that once you have IBD you might want to eat a low protein diet. This is consistent with diets that were used to treat diarrhea (which suggests ibd) such as the BRAT diet.

Technology@lemmy.world•Study: Social media probably can’t be fixedEnglish
4·4 months agoYes and yes. What is crazy to me is that the owners of social media want more than profits. They also have a political agenda and are willing to tip the scales against any politician who opposes their interests or the interests of their major shareholders. Facebook promoted right wing disinformation campaigns against leaders who they disliked such as mark Carney. Their shareholders should be sued into oblivion and their c levels thrown into prison. Yet our legal system forbids this.

News@lemmy.world•Texas Republicans vote to arrest Democrats stalling redistricting vote
1·5 months agoYoure probably right about them breaking the rules. They may pull something clearly illegal like appoint temporary members of the state legislature just for the vote. But this is going to be like burning down chernobyl. Texas was already gerrymandered into oblivion.
There are significantly more registered democrats in Texas than Republicans. Proportionately greater than California. The fact that they are dominated by Republicans shows how lacking in democratic values the state is. Sad that they are going to throw away the last remaining bits.

News@lemmy.world•Tesla awards CEO Musk millions in shares valued at about $29 billion
141·5 months agoThe shareholders, who are not starving by any means, dont mind lower earnings per share as long as their political machinations are being carried out. The world’s largest capital equity firms have all gotten onto the musk bandwagon believing that his vision for the future is good for their funds.
The overvaluation is more designed to fund the schemes of musk, who wants to break the US up into fiefdoms.
