Movies@lemmy.world•[Meta] for people looking for a more active community, there's [email protected]English
51·1 month agoLook, I’m just a lurker, so I don’t really have any standing here, but I figured I should explain my downvote:
Every time you promote in here, it’s framed negatively (“we’re more active than you”), rather than encouraging friendly coexistence (“if you want even more movie stuff, come check us out, too!”). Sure, it may just be a difference in phrasing, but to me, it also changes whether your posts actually contribute something to this community or not.

1·3 months agoI was gonna nominate the Hellraiser series, but the reboot movie that came out a few years ago was at least watchable.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it just my area or has this been an insanely humid summer?
4·4 months agoConsistently much more humid where I am, yeah. Also milder so far, which is nice after last year’s multi-100+ heatwaves. (I’ve probably just jinxed my weather, great.)

Movies@lemmy.world•[Spoilers] The Ugly Stepsister (2025) DiscussionEnglish
1·5 months agoI finally got around to watching it (sorry it took so long!). I agree with your review pretty much in full, actually, and second that it’s not for the squeamish lol.
The whole thing was beautifully shot, including the horror bits, and the story was really good at getting you to sympathize with Elvira on her downward spiral, led astray and enabled by the adults.
Spoiler thoughts
Alma is the best character, imo, although I would have liked to see her be a more constant voice of reason and/or obvious alternate role model that Elvira is blind to, rather than just the savior at the end.
Re: Agnes: Initially, it sounded like Agnes only wanted to marry the prince so she’d have the money to bury her dad, but then the after-credits shot makes it clear that she never did. So at that point, why not steal anything of value and run off after her stable boy instead (apart from the story needing to match the fairy tale)? I think I agree with you that it must have been for spite, but I found her motivations kinda blurry.

Entertainment@beehaw.org•What’s Next for Denis Villeneuve’s Bond Movie? Amazon’s Wishlist Includes Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland and Harris Dickinson
0·5 months agoAgreed on the older Bond; under 30 makes me think they’re going for another Bond origins thing, bleh.
I’ve been pro-Matthew Goode in the role for ages. Apparently he wanted to do a grittier Bond, though, which… idk, I’d rather they go back to a slightly lighter/sillier tone.

memes@lemmy.world•How does everyone deal with this dilemma?
9·5 months agoI think one of the tricks is to purposefully plan time to cook that’s not right before you’re planning to eat, so it’s an activity/hobby, not a necessity. If I have to cook when I’m hungry, I’ll probably just make do instead, but if I say “ok, Saturday afternoon, I’m gonna make a pot of soup, because that’ll be delicious later,” it’s a lot less dreadful, imo.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a fun, cheap, solo workout someone can do at home?
21·6 months agoYou might have a look at Darebee workouts/programs. Can search by ‘upper’, ‘abs’, etc to cut out a lot of stuff your foot might have trouble with.
And then Loki got preggers, and gave birth to Sleipnir, an 8-legged horse that Odin rides around.
Hint
Take a closer look at the arm rest of the bench.
It did: they gave Drummer Michio Pa’s story in the last couple seasons.

Movies@lemmy.world•[Spoilers] The Ugly Stepsister (2025) DiscussionEnglish
2·7 months agoIt’s on my watch list, although I’ll probably end up waiting til it’s streaming to see it. Glad to hear it’s good!
( [email protected] and/or [email protected] might appreciate this post, too.)
It’s not there if you’re trying to do professional printing: I still see people complaining about messed up color profiles, exporting, etc. Otherwise, I’ve found it fairly ok, although pelespirit’s right about the clunk here and there.

If you’re still taking suggestions for the list:
Also, maybe try crossposting to some of the horror communities (if not for today’s movie night, then for later ones)?
EDIT: A few more (sorry!)
