Oh yes the community laid the bricks but as we seen with linux desktop its the easy to use part thst actually gets users to go there.
By your loaded question and moved goalposts every place in the world is a dystopian shithole of eternal damnation and torture. But europe comes close.
Wow its as if there are more countries than usa and more forms of capitalism than the fucked up one usa citizens allow themselves to be governed by.
Nobody is forcing customers to exchange their money for that specific good or service. In gaming and tv, customers can also get services and products for free.
I don’t think its as much as microsoft lost its just that all the consoles are the same, and pc and steam deck by extension plays all the games anyway for cheaper.
I personally know a few kids born into families for the sole purpose of their parents getting more pocket money from the government and they made millionaire by their 30s and are all nice. Stop equating america to rest of the world, thanks.
I agree there are problems that could be fixed and need more publicity but they are far from evil.
Sure it would be nice if measures were put in place to stop underage gambling but basically everything with not guranteed rewards and rng is underage gambling. Claw machines. Coin operated ball dispensers. Pokemon cards. Literal gambling kids can do irl. Lootboxes in other games. Mojang running literal real money casinos in minecraft. As an underage I just sold valve “evil lootboxes” and used it to buy games I could’t have otherwise.
Compared to ubisoft, ea, amazon, basically every big developer the ultra evil crimes against humanity valve is doing are minor. Thanks to valve “mandatory, evil forced upon lootboxes” I’ve been able to buy a few free full priced games just by playing cs and tf2 and not opening any of them. Its not valves fault other companies do it worse and there are very few games with lootboxes that are not yearly rerelease scams. Sure valve takes a big cut out of developers but as a developer it is the cost of doing business. They provide a lot of opportunities and take off a lot of the headache as well. They also single handedly screwed over MS by making linux viable for the regular gamer, popularized vr only for zuck to kill it, have cloud saves, are pioneering less wasteful, less power consuming arm devices for gamers, are advocating for right to repair with all their hardware. They are almost european.
The person paying every single valve employees checks. That’s what a customer is. Customers have rights and are the only ones who control wether the company lives or dies.
next fests, returns, single handedly making linux a viable gaming platform for the casual user, popularising vr, having reasonable refunds, steam client having basically all the functions youd ever need, forcing companies to be upfront about kernel level anti cheat, etc. Valve is nowhere near as bad as ea, ubisoft, etc.
Valve is basically the only decent american big games company. I understand some need the narrative for the promised class war in order to distract you from the crisis in democracy, but not everyone with a company is literally lenin or stalin or polpot or hitler.
They become that once the company goes public.
oh no, where will people get their funco pops now?
Its called “not having shareholders to maximise profits for”. Everything turns to shit once they go public.
In the great us downfall of 2026, valve might just be the only big company left standing.
The game used to be fun but now its a complete mess with broken balance and everything is nerfed into oblivion leaving no room for anything interesting but getting headshots with the operator who has the best gun. Gone are the days where gadgets mattered.
I don’t see a reinvention without all balance being reset and new people being taken on to oversee balance.
As a beginner I found godot unnaproachable and confusing. Then I did a course at uni to program in python and a few tutorials done from beginning to end later, it makes sense.
Something about objects don’t move instantaneously but at the speed of sound that material has, so the stick would move way later. If you think about it, speed of sound inside a medium is basically how fast the particles inside that medium can send energy from one another.
Idk, my steam deck plays all the games I want including ones that don’t work on windows and my fedora does the exact same. People want steam os since they don’t know how good linux has become in a very short time. Your archicad, adobe and games where developers have deliberately disable linux won’t work on steam os same as they won’t work on the good distros, so why wait for steamos?
After using lutris I very much appreciate valves huge effort that makes you forget what OS you are on since you just click play and have a good time. Where hardcore, extreme tweaking is selecting another proton from a dropdown menu. I don’t even know prefixes existed until I was forced to use lutris. In my experience it seems OS communty made games run on linux so OS and linux hobbyists can play games easily. Valve made it so regular folks can play games easily. I patiently await more people to come over to linux so that I can use my hotas as well.
