The thing stopping me from using Arch is that most programs come out as debs and you have to wait for them to show up in the AUR. Example: when Mullvad VPN first came out it was only available as a deb. How long did it take to show up in the AUR? Who made that available? Was it the Mullvad folks or someone else? That’s the kind of thing that concerns me.

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMsEnglish
4·22 days agoI find tiling more efficient because
- I can have predetermined layouts per desktop where my often used programs are.
- I only have to purposely move windows out of the way if I’ve made the floating on purpose, and
- Less mouse use and more keyboard use for changing the layout, resizing windows, changing to another window …
The more I use tiling, the more advantages I find. At this point I think I could use any desktop as long as I had Krohnkite functioning tiling.

Linux@lemmy.ml•my reason why you should use KDE+Krohnkite instead of WMsEnglish
22·22 days agoI wanted to give tiling a chance. I decided to use Krohnkite for a week to give it a chance. At first I didn’t care for tiling but quickly got into it and now I love it. Sometimes to really know if something is going to work for you or not, you have to give it some time. I’ve used this approach for other things (not all work out) but for Krohnkite it did for me. Also, don’t forget to check out all the Krohnkite options.

17·24 days agoDo RSS feeds count as a “service”? I fear one day they will go away and that will be the end of my efficient way of keeping up with things I am interested in.

36·28 days agoAren’t the pot smokers more mellow and less likely to fight/shoot/kill someone. I think drinkers stand a better chance of violence. How about we leave both groups alone. Case closed … next?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•how did you make the switch from reddit to lemmy.. i'm trying to myself but struggling to nglEnglish
11·1 month agoJoin a bunch of communities that you may be interested in to fill up your feed with a bunch of stuff to read. That way, if you want to take a break and read stuff, you can look here rather than on Reddit. You can look for communities here that are a close match to what you had on Reddit. Over time, you can dial them in and hopefully not feel the need to go back to Reddit.
I never go back and just to read Reddit. I only go there if a web search looking for something in particular takes me there.

1·2 months agoI was thinking that these companies would be making a lot of money and people with money would love to invest in them. This would further split people as those invested would want the companies to thrive and those that couldn’t afford to invest …
I do see how being private corporations would work too.

All pollution standards will be dropped. The air will become so bad that homes will have to have active filtration and people will have to have active personal protection when they go outside. Both of these active devices will run on a subscription plan controlled by publicly owned companies. Can’t pay, can’t breath. The same will apply to water.

If the top bar is set up as a menu bar, it could save space on the screen when multiple horizontally placed windows (without individual menu bars) are on the screen. Other than that, I think the general top bar stuff can just be in the bottom bar.
