  • Yeah I’m starting to realize some things after really exploring Lemmy after a few days. My biggest concern is that the whole federated thing isn’t gonna work for me. I don’t want to hunt for small communities and then risk losing them in petty squabbles by those who control them. It’s like a whole bunch of little villages who claim to be united and connected, but in reality any village can cut off contact with any other for whatever reason their village leader(s) decide. You can leave the village if you don’t like it, sure, but do you really want to end up as an internet nomad? I sure don’t. Federation clearly does not inherently mean everyone is connected, despite what some proponents of the fediverse might say.

  • Really unfortunate, but not really unexpected honestly. The average user probably doesn’t care that much and will just go along with whatever because they’re just used to Reddit and aren’t interested in putting forth the effort to find alternatives, regardless of how simple it actually is. It was an amazing effort by those who cared, but I’m gonna put on my tinfoil condom here and say that a lot of mods have likely been replaced and the criticality of Reddit has been intentionally suppressed in favor of positive sentiment. Don’t give into vitriol, after all we did exactly what it says at the end of the post and we seem to be much happier overall. I would have never heard of Lemmy or Mastodon had all of this this not happened.

  • Yeah I stopped playing about 2 years ago just because of product fatigue. And the new LOTR stuff costing twice as much as a regular set? No thank you. They have also leaned heavily into turning MTG into a weird “investment vehicle” with all these ultra-collectible and exclusive cards, the most egregious of which is the “one of one ring.” It’s pretty gross. It’s much less about the actual game now, which I’m sure would (does?) disappoint Dr. Garfield as he only wanted to make a game. He expected people to play magic at the kitchen table and wrap a rubber band around their deck when done.
