Yeah… I can barely smell at all. Even normally strong smells like that of the urine of an unfixed male cat aren’t particularly impactful to me. I wouldn’t have even considered the potentiality that ants have a distinctive smell in spite of being aware that they use pheromone trails for navigation.

Felt this one yesterday. Just finished a semester with a great and charismatic professor.

He got us all together for a class photo and I felt I should express my emotions so put on a big smile. Could feel how the muscles weren’t used to doing that.

  • This is one of the extremely few cases where I’m not sure if it’s Capitalism made it worse or there was just always some proportion of parents who were thing abhorrent.

    • I’m not sure of cases of ‘aEsThEtIc’ being forced on children of times past, though it may more simply have been that their parent’s was the only option not just for reasons of authoritarianism.
    • Not parenting one’s children and instead leaving them to ‘thing of the day/age’ isn’t exactly new. I recall stories of children being expelled from the home and left unsupervised until they were expected to come home of their own volition at the end of the day.
    • Without knowing what you mean by ‘alarming parenting advice’ I can’t really comment on that but what immediately comes to mind is religious commands to murder children who were insufficiently deferential to their parents.
    • Additionally to murder beatings were also prescribed for children in the books of vile darkness.
    • This one might actually be some abhorrence unique to capitalism.

Society is optimized for the majority of people, not just certain personality types.

Eh, more or less. Society is also distorted by those who have a significant amount of economic or political power. It’s still shaped very much with an exclusion of consideration of us but it’s not really something approaching a ‘decent fit for the majority’ rather I would say it’s something more akin to the powerful impressing their demands for the structure of society upon all of us and the majority contorting around it.

Ex. Why doesn’t the US & Canada have a robust passenger rail network? Because of the influence of a strong automotive lobby (they used to and the car companies lobbied for it’s de-prioritization leading to slow degradation to the sorry state they’re in now).

  • To add to this: Yes, it does feel absolutely awful to lose the world when you die in hardcore.

However, I also find the investment into the admittedly temporary and fragile world to be really rewarding. Doing things has a greater feeling of accomplishment, even if they’re the mundane actions of just staying alive in survival.

Still reeed pretty hard when on my longest-running hardcore I died to piglins while bed-mining because I forgot to bring a backup gold helmet.
