I used to think I completely hated turn-based RPGs.

Dicey Dungeons was the one game that turned me around on the genre. I’m actively thinking on each turn, and even the enemy’s turn, without feeling like the game is wasting my time. If a battle is slow, it’s only slow because I’m taking the time to think, and that’s MY choice.

I still don’t think I’ll play most turn-based RPGs, but I definitely know they can be fun, now!

Freakin’ Terraria, man. Bought it for just six quid on release day and it’s gotten me almost 3,000 hours of enjoyment. And I’m one to flit from game to game, too - my library’s huge, but Terraria is just that one game I keep coming back to. Just one more playthrough. Let’s see what I can get up to this time… (Especially with the new Remix seed!)

  • So uh, what was that self test you took?

I kinda want to be a bit more sure myself before going to doctors and such, because a lot I’ve heard about ADHD seems eerily familiar. (Heck, more familiar than Asperger’s which I actually HAVE been diagnosed with, but I heard the two tend to go hand in hand anyway. Would like more sources on that, though.)

  • I’ve spent more time in indie games like Terraria, 20XX, 30XX, Deep Rock Galactic, and NecroDancer than I ever have with most AAA titles. (Animal Crossing Wild World is probably the exception, but I played that a LOT as a kid)

Though that’s not too say I don’t enjoy AAA titles. I’m having a blast with Tears of the Kingdom, I’ve been revisiting an old Phantasy Star Online game, and my entire friend group has recently gotten into Dragon Marked for Death (though that last one might be just AA)

  • My Favourite Game of All Time is a mod, weirdly enough. Sonic Robo Blast 2, which is a mod of a source port of Doom.

I don’t think I go a week without checking out the recent releases page to see what new mods dropped for the game. Just recently, a mod released which turns the game into an RPG heavily inspired by Phantasy Star Online (in particular, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity)… the game’s a gift that keeps on giving, I swear
