I just absolutely love this comment, especially the dismissive bit at the end. Damn fine nerding my friend.

politics @lemmy.world•JD Vance and Erika Kirk's Warm Hug at Turning Point Event Goes ViralEnglish
10·1 day agooh please, this is the republican version of an arranged marriage.
Here’s my conspiracy brain take. With turnips rapidly declining health, they know they need the next puppet to take his place. J.V. dunce is all they’ve got but his wife will never be accepted by the cult. So, this kirk shit happens and all of the sudden they have an already cult approved stepford wife, complete with a perfect sympathy story for cover (‘he was helping me with my grief and it just happened like it was meant to be from god!’).
If any of this happens, it just feels too cooked up, a desperate throw of the dice. But, I think the magats are just the right kind of stupid and evil for it to work.
This is all just insane ramblings of a bored nerd.

An armed minority is harder to oppress
The oppressors will always have better weapons. The best way to lose a fight is to be overconfident. A smart and organized minority is even harder to oppress.

1·3 days agoIn nearly 50 years I’ve never been anywhere else close to a knife fight, I’m also not a moron.
The situation I’m talking about is home defense and yes, I have dogs, I live in one of the safest areas of my state and I do have self defense plans if anything does happen. Guns are not part of that strategy because I have kids in the house, and despite them being trained, I still am not going to keep one around just so that I can ‘feel’ safer.
You do you, I’m not going to stop you, even if I were anti-gun, the ship sailed long before I was born in this country. So instead, since they are a reality in the US, let’s be smart about them and recognize that individual situations are different for each of us.

62·3 days agoI’m still not willing to get one. I am statistically safer without one in the house. I do have a couple large dogs, I collect knives and I have collapsible batons stashed in key locations.
Maybe once the kids are out of the house.

Get the he fuck out of here with this bullshit. This is exactly the fucking problem with dems. They fail, so they just look for how to copy the last successful gop strategy.
We see through it you fucking morons, this is why your polling is in the toilet. Instead of supporting winning, successful candidates with resonating messaging, they form committees, and find the next one in line to support.
We’re so fucking cooked if this is what they are coming up with.

14·13 days agoI admit, it almost worked on me. I was a little scared to go, and I left my phone and identifying information at home. I also brought a 360 degree camera in case shit happened, figured I’d have a better chance of getting it on camera.
But instead it was a massive party, just fun people, hilarious signs and a truly pleasant and enjoyable walk through the city. It really helped break some of my cynicism; some, not all.
I can’t wait for the next one.

4·17 days agoI tried that, they cut me off.
Something I couldn’t help but notice today. I work from home most days at my current job, but I’m in the office this week. I’m the sort of person who always looks strangers in the eye and says hello, or just a smile and nod… today as I walked through the buildings to get lunch, not one single person acknowledged me. I almost always get at least a few responses or at least a smile. Today, nothing, every single person stared at the floor, or intentionally looked away when I made eye contact.
I get that there are folks uncomfortable with such interactions, and so I am not offended or upset if I don’t get a response, but despite being surrounded by people, I don’t remember feeling more alone.
Just wanted to share, seems relevant.

16·19 days agoThey will all be rich and in positions of power. This kind of shit gets celebrated in this country. Once things die down the outrage machine will kick in and they will say that private, out of context conversations don’t matter, that is unless the can come up with a barely plausible story that it was all fabricated (they are already trying to say it was AI).
It won’t matter that it’s transparent and obvious to everyone. Most people don’t pay enough attention and will forget all about it. It will seem like a distant memory and the “reasonable” people will lecture us about the necessity of forgiveness.
Then they will be caught with an underaged intern or some shit and nothing will come of it since they are just public people with pressures on them that we just can’t understand.
Yeah, I’m a little cynical.

3·20 days agoOh, I agree, nothing wrong with mint. I just like the fact that the LMDE version is Debian based and works with everything I’ve thrown it at.
Figure proof of they ever decide to switch away from Ubuntu and mainline LMDE. Probably won’t happen, but makes me feel better anyway :).

3·20 days agoLMDE for future proofing and stability. Sort of a comedy option, but it’s my distro of choice. As easy as Mint, as stable as Debian. I just don’t trust Ubuntu and since it’s a Debian based distro, why not take one more step…
