When I was a kid we had a lab and a flat coated retriever. The house was usually empty, except for the dogs, when I got home from school. Being greeted by those two charmers, who were always inconceivably happy to see me, could put a smile on any frowny day.
They become proper, universally loved family members, and so it’s terribly sad they can’t be with us “forever”. Make every moment count. I suppose that’s true for most things in life.
