Since April 2022, 110,000 migrants have come to New York, with 10,000 arriving a month, largely bused here to the Port Authority terminal by conservative leaders from border states like Texas, in a political dispute about border security.

The surge has forced city officials to open more than 200 emergency sites to house migrants, after its traditional shelters became overwhelmed. And schools are feeling the strain as well.

There’s a critical difference, though, between the complaints of the NY City and State politicians, and the complaints of the Governors of Southern states that are doing the busing.

Folks like Abbott are complaining about these people coming over the border, while simultaneously spending money to make then Someone Else’s problem.

The politicians in NYC are upset at folks like Abbott for sending so many migrants there, but acknowledge that they are humans that need help, and their beef with the Federal Government is simply to send more money. They are also explicitly asking for expedited work permits for these people. These migrants want to work, but have no legal way to do that right now.

Between the young people everywhere in the country who can’t afford to have children, the regressive laws that are driving out young people who can afford to start a family, and all these migrant humans that the South does not want, I would not be surprised if there is a major demographic shift in the next census, where the liberal states which have been seeing a net outflow of residents reverse that trend. After all, these migrants are supposed to be enumerated in the census, and count in apportionment, even if they can’t vote. Well see whether Texas manages to ship a Congressional seat or two away to NYC on these buses.
