This post is to answer the query of @[email protected] regarding my ranking of each Trek series as they currently stand. Being a child of the 80’s certainly influences my choices, plus the “golden age” longer seasons allowing for better character development. SNW having not quite 2 seasons remaining (the 5th and final season being a truncated 6 episodes; rather shy of the modern era 10) leaves its spot in limbo. Chances are I’ll end up placing it above LD. Then there’s the upcoming Academy yet to debut, making any more steadfast placement caught in temporal flux. Bring it on… And do play nice in the comments. Opinions we can disagree with, but remember that they come from people. Very flawed people.

Background from TAS S2e4 “How Sharper Than a Serpent’s Tooth.” Just love the scenery artwork in that show.

taste is taste. I find it amusing that the visual spectaculars they spent bucketfuls of effort on have lost out to something that is basically one level below “Clutch Cargo” with the lips sticking out of the drawings.

No amount of money could save the weak and inconsistent writing. TAS being episodic gives it some leeway, plus the original cast lending their voices is a huge boon. Doohan doing most of the heavy lifting.

For me, despite its pandering nature, season 3 finally clued into what the fandom was expecting from the series from day 1. Just get the damn band back together! Maybe hire a lighting technician. Ah, crap, they got the guy from the Kelvin-verse.

Prodigy is in a similar limbo as well, right?

It may just be my personal wishes clouding my judgment here, but the way I interpret this, the creators intend to keep creating more, they just need to find a company to fund it

By May 2025, Netflix decided to let the license for the series expire. The Hagemans said the series’ removal from the streaming service was “disconcerting” but it was not due to “lack of viewership or anything nefarious”. They remained hopeful that another service would pick up the series so it could continue, saying “the next generation of Trek fans deserve it”. No work on a third season had begun by that July, and it was considered unlikely by TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich who pointed to Netflix’s decision to let the license expire and Paramount Global Content Distribution’s marketing of the second season as the “final season”.
