Anybody who expected anything else hasn’t been paying attention.

Trump’s a spoiled little boy pretending to be a big man. As long as he’s surrounded by unprincipled sycophants and other emotionally stunted wannabes, he can get away with pretending to be a big man, but as soon as anyone stands up to him, he folds up.

Putin, meanwhile, fought and killed his way to the top of one of the most fiercely competitive authoritarian systems on Earth. He’s never going to cede anything to a delusional toddler.

A weak man’s idea of a strong man.

A poor man’s idea of a rich man.

An idiot’s idea of a smart man.

No, Trump will get shut down and led around by people like Macron or Newson, and in the moment he’ll get all quiet and meek, but after a while he’ll go back to constantly shit talking them

Trump looks at Putin like he’s in love with him. I don’t know if it’s because he wants to fuck him or wants to be him, maybe both

But Putin doesn’t put Trump in his place, ironically it’s like the Sadam/Satan thing in South Park with the roles reversed. Trump comes out of interactions with him a little dazed and regurgitating Russian propaganda, but smiling. It takes him a few days to realize he’s been played, again

My preferred phrasing is that Trump looks at Putin like a schoolgirl with a crush.

I’m not sure why you start that with a “No” though - I don’t think we disagree.

I said that Putin won’t cede anything to Trump because that’s specifically what he (won’t) do. Yes - he doesn’t overtly shut Trump down - he doesn’t even seem to challenge him much. He’s smarter than that. He knows that Trump is a shallow, emotionally immature narcissist, so he feeds his ego and jollies him along, and counts on Trump being so pleased about being treated like a big boy by his hero/crush that he won’t notice that he isn’t sctually getting any meaningful concessions at all. And it works.

My theory is that, though he overcompensates, deep down, Trump’s a masochist and he gets off on being humiliated by Putin.

Have you seen Trump’s worn out face and meek demeanour in his speech right after the private talk with Putin?

This is the look of someone who just got humiliated and bullied and tries to play it cool.

During the 2007 G8 summit Sarkozy also had the same demeanour in a press conference following a private talk with Putin in private. People originally thought he was drunk. But witness reports confirm that Putin immediately found a way to get under his skin and verbally destroyed and belittled him. Putin is extremely skilled at this and it’s obvious he just did the same to Trump. Not that Trump was a particularly difficult victim to manipulate like that.

Yeah, the media has been absolutely hopeless about this. Sanewashing and legitimising these two criminals, and treating this as if it was something actually legit.

Putin told him exactly what dirt he will release on Trump if he doesn’t get his own way.

As the now winded president crawled backward from Putin’s chair, he took a moment to wipe his chin with the red silk tie, still draped around his neck. He grasped the table to steady himself as he rose to his feet again, turning and taking a moment regain composure. Turning back, he was greeted by the kind of vexing stare that he’d grown used to from the Russian oligarch. There was a moment of silent tension in the room. Even JD, still grasping himself in the far corner, refused to move for fear of disrupting the tension. Slowly Vladimir’s hand rose. A bead of sweat broke free and streamed around the president’s quietly quivering gullet. Donald could see Putin’s hand rotating and but he already knew the verdict. The stalwart Russian held his thumb down longer than necessary, in the Russian way. The Washington aides started backing out of the room as secret service radios began buzzing on the tarmac. “Fire up the bird,” an agent whispered to the flight crew. “We’re not staying.”

Heritage Foundation, Federalist Society, etc. Trump may or may not be directly a Putin puppet, but those orgs are likely looking at what he’s done and using pieces of it and allowing his influence to work to their benefit. Trump is a symptom and a useful idiot.
