So I am wondering what effect does recognizing it as a state have? To me it sounds like the whole “thoughts and prayers” thing but admittedly I have no idea what it actually means.
Well, apart from a meaningless political song and dance, my theory is that it’s more of an announcement that they’re willing to oppose Israel by recognising Palestine, something the Netanyahu’s administration do not want. Partially because Israel has spent the last 77 years of its existence telling its people that what we see as Palestine is, in fact, all Israel, and always has been.
The countries are too fucking weak to stop the cruelty or say no to Israel, and this is the best they can do. It’s essentially the governments saying they’ll step up, and looking around to see if the other classmates look like they’re also going to, so they won’t be alone. As if Israel is a Goliath.

Could some smarty pants bring me up to speed?
Disclaimer: am not smart

You sound like you are smarter than me, so take that as you will. Thanks for the reply.
