Wikipedia says he was denied boarding the day prior? I know it’s all security theater but they’re also incompetent. It’s really disgusting when those two intersect.
Maybe I’m thinking of the guy who had the liquid pouch and matches, who is the reason why I can’t bring a bottle of water through security. I would Google it, but I don’t want to end up on a list by searching those specific terms in this political climate.
I think i must be conflating different instances as I did do some googling and the “Underwear Bomber” most closely matches my (probably addled) recollection. However this guy wasn’t arrested just before takeoff either, so that aspect must have been some instance that didnt gain as much notoriety and was lost in the news cycle.
