Study from World Travel & Tourism Council looked at the economic impact of tourism in 184 countries
Donald Trump’s policies risks alienating millions of international travelers and could cost the U.S. economy billions of dollars due to a sharp drop in tourism, a damning report says.
Amid the president’s immigration crackdown, travel bans and sweeping global tariffs, the U.S. is expected to be the only one out of 184 countries to see foreign visitor spending fall in 2025, according to the World Travel and Tourism Council.
The study suggests that the U.S. economy is on track to lose $12.5 billion in international spending this year alone – but the actual shortfall might be much greater.
Why in the world would you visit a country where the secret police is actively snatching people off the street with no due process?
I really wish Canadians would stop going to the US. I just heard that last month top destination out of Toronto was NYC. Even with all the stories of Canadians being detained and mistreated thousands are still going there every day.
good. if you live elsewhere, and are considering visiting the states: DON’T.
Honestly its unsafe to go there now. Stay safe people.
It’s not like there wasn’t the risk of getting shot by random ppl before all of this crap.
The projected decline is driven by an estimated 20 percent drop in Canadian visitors through 2025
This is not enough. Why are Canadians still visiting the US?!
This CBC article states:
Global Affairs Canada said it’s aware of roughly 55 Canadians in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody, though it said that the numbers can fluctuate.
Fifty five kidnapped Canadians. There’s no travel warning on the government’s site, and people are still crossing the border. Are they not paying attention? The Canadian government sure isn’t helping get the word out.
Honestly? Probably the lack of options.
As a Canadian, unless you want to cross the Atlantic, you got like a handful of good Canadian choices and the rest is American.
That will change in the fall/winter cause Central America would become a good option.
Alberta. That’s why.
People make travel plans a year in advance and want to get one last trip in. Next January will be the real death of tourism
The excuse I’ve heard is “well, it’s fine to visit blue states”. Most of the people I know (rightly) won’t visit the US anymore but that’s what I’ve heard from people who would
I have many family members who are American citizens, many American born for generations. There is no way I will visit them, it’s up to them to visit us.
You couldn’t pay me to go to the US right now, ain’t no way I’m gonna risk getting detained for no reason
I know at least 2 people that were planning to visit the USA in the next 2 years. Plans changed.
I’m a us citizen and will be visiting for the first time in 6 years to see my family.
I’m hoping I will have an empty seat next to me as the flight is like 14 hours.
Don’t get your hopes up. My flights were absolutely packed about 2 weeks ago.
Are you me? Same scenario, flight is near end of the year though.
You bet I bought travel insurance so I can cancel if things get real bad…I don’t think travel insurance works that way.
It’s usually for predefined reasons, like natural disasters, pandemics and stuff.
So, I’d double check the policy and what you’re allowed to cancel for.
I’m afraid to check ticket prices again as I would hate to see them much cheaper than before.
It might also include civil war.
I’ve seen mixed messages on that, so I made sure of it. I appreciate the word of caution though!
Yeah, the usual savings from early ticket purchases might not be there this time. We’ll have to see I guess.I just checked and the prices were about the same or slightly higher.
