Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think about the protocol behind Bluesky, ATproto, and how do you think it compares to ActivityPub?English3·26 days agoOkay, I didn’t know ATproto had many parts that can be independent or dependent on each other. It would be nice if there was an easy way to check the level of independence of an instance
Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think about the protocol behind Bluesky, ATproto, and how do you think it compares to ActivityPub?English10·26 days agoI don’t use it much, but from what I understand ATproto used to super expensive to self host but now costs have fallen significantly and other instances outside of the main Bluesky instance have emerged. I think now the problem they have to solve is getting the users (who are something like 99 per cent on the main Bluesky instance) over to the other instances.
Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksto Fediverse@lemmy.world•This is what solidarity looks likeEnglish8·1 month agoAs I understand, its an ATproto instance separate from Bluesky. Racially self segregated is a weird phrase and a wrong assumption. You don’t to black to join but is a focused on black cultures and communities

Who can I donate to that is working on making alternative OS accessible on android or iphones?
I know there are alternative OS already out there but they aren’t as universally accessible compared to how Linux can run on any PC.
Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•localhosting: selfhosting to the minEnglish6·2 months agoAs a non technical person, I think any tool that would make local hosting easier for laypeople like myself is great! I hope everything works out for you and localhostinger becomes a thing. I particularly like the “The app store idea” version a lot!

The Old Drift (2019) - Namwali Serpell
Tekusat (ትኩሳት) (1997) - Sebhat Gebre-Egzhiaber

The Wedding of Zein (1966) - Tayeb Salih
Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Should large Fediverse instances and Bluesky encourage, not require, users to opt-in to bridges that connect the Fediverse to Bluesky and other non-fedi social web platforms?English1·2 months agoThis is a good point. I wonder why this isn’t the default

The current govt seemed very adamant about removing plastic shopping bags waste. Although in my experience the most common shopping bags in the Ethiopia are much thinner than other countries (I would guess that they are probably only 30 microns) it would just mean the plastic producers would just shift to creating thicker bags
Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksto Fediverse@lemmy.world•A list with 1051 verified accounts from media organizations in the Fediverse 👇🏼English1·4 months agoThanks for the answer. This might be a dumb question but what does that mean exactly? Is Flipboard approaching the different media outlets and offering to share their content on Flipboard’s instance? If so, what do the media outlets get out of using flipboard versus their own instance or a more generic instance like mastadon.social?
Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksto Fediverse@lemmy.world•A list with 1051 verified accounts from media organizations in the Fediverse 👇🏼English1·4 months agoHow come so many of them are on flipboard? I wonder why they don’t run their own instances

Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksOPto Fediverse@lemmy.world•If you can afford it, PeerTube is having a fundraiser for its mobile appEnglish11·4 months agoI really like the app too and I like the improvements they are focusing:
Goal #1: Free PeerTube “Premium” for the people €15,000
Play videos in background Cast your videos to your TV Get notified of newly released content Change the video definition
Goal #2: Share videos from your pocket €35,000
Manage all channels of your account Edit video chapters, subtitles, info, etc. Get detailed stats of your content Upload new videos from your mobile
Goal #3: Livestream from your mobile €55,000
Set up & manage livestream Use device cameras & connection Stream live from your hand No more need for a secondary mobile app dedicated to live streams
Plus on the fireside fedi interview, a rep from peertube said that they would make these improvements whether or not they hit the fundraising goals but the new funds would help
Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube relaxes moderation rules to allow more controversial content. Twoafros@sh.itjust.worksto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Terry Crews has made "A Thousand Miles" more famous than OP Vanessa CarltonEnglish7·4 months agoI thought this was a fake song they made up for the movie for years before I heard the song playing in real life.
I remember watching the movie for the first time and thinking, “No, this song is way over the top and too much of a satire”. Man, was I wrong!
This sucks. Hopefully this will push ppl to sign up to mastadon or to other atproto instances and move away from the main bluesky acct.
For anybody looking for mastadon instance i recommend mas.to and for an atproto alternative, I’ve been on blacksky.community instance for a few weeks now and I rly enjoy it
