I have to hop VPNs, usually within Belgium (because it’s close enough to be fast for streaming) but the F1TV website kicks me out occasionally, probably once or twice every three races or so. Usually totally fine once I get connected and stay connected for ten mins or so but I need to stay behind the VPN at all times!

I know we hate Google here, but if you want to buy F1TV, you should be able to do so via Google Pay or Google Wallet or whatever. It obscures your country, so they won’t know where you’re buying from. Then, VPN to watch the races. I’ve done this since 2022 because F1TV isn’t allowed in the UK. Never missed a race since 👍

Do have to deal with the occasional buffering though which sends me into a frustrated meltdown for five seconds or so but it’s chill really. £6.99 a month isn’t bad either!

I think ‘master’ is fine for the master branch. It’s a master copy of the codebase.

Being slightly wrong in a translation is bad, for sure, but doesn’t (often) invent new facts. I still would not trust it for a legal document, personally.

I did actually originally ask what your point was in the comment I wrote, but I couldn’t phrase it in a way that didn’t feel hostile - which I hope I’m not coming across as. I just couldn’t quite grasp the point you were trying to make, and I think it’s because we disagree on a fundamental level here.

Yes if they’re signing a contract, absolutely get a lawyer if you don’t understand what you’re signing, but occasionally you just need to look up a law or accept a eula, and it would be nice to be able to have some help reading it, even if it’s from an imperfect tool.

I agree with the first part about signing a contract, but totally disagree with the second. If I need to look up a law, or anything at all, I would never run it through a machine that regularly invents “facts” from whole cloth, or misinterprets, while agreeing and confidently backing any implications I give it. LLMs are inherently untrustworthy, in my opinion, partly because they’re programmed to be “yes-men” who engage the user constantly in order to sell them a service, and partly because they don’t “know” anything - they just essentially scrape the web and then uncritically mash whatever they find together and return it in convincing natural language.

I think they are dangerous to engage with at any level.

The reason you ask a lawyer and not an LLM if you can’t understand the original document is because LLMs regularly misinterpret and hallucinate, and you might have no way to verify that what it says is true.

The LLM doesn’t know things. It isn’t “the key” or “the answer”. I don’t think this user is talking about translating a legal document from another actual language or anything.

Honestly, may as well be. I wish there was some way to have an internet that wasn’t bots, or subject to advertising and marketing creeps, but that’s just not gonna happen outside of like… I don’t know. I don’t even know where the infrastructure would begin for humans to separate themselves online and build an actual community. It would be tough. It’s a shame, really. This could have been so good.

Maybe the situation here is different, but in the video game industry when boycotts happen due to scummy business practices and then get instantly forgiven, those companies in question usually figure out a new way to implement those scummy practices that flies under the radar. Or they just do it again, at a better time.

I can’t help but feel Disney will now work out a new way to appease the fascist regime, but without openly annoying supporters like this. Maybe those private “thoughtful conversations” they had with Kimmel contained some directives. Maybe we’ll get a more neutered show now. Appeasing the regime is the problem really.
