Did Americans actually think they were for real? I feel like folks everywhere else understood it but evidently enjoyed the entertaining acrobatics! I guess voting for a rich reality TV star charlatan was definitely in the cards for the US, lol, they can’t tell reality from fiction anyway!

It was pretty obviously an act as early as 1987 when the iron sheik and hacksaw got pulled over in the same car and arrested for dwi/possession. Fans weren’t so much angry about the substance abuse as they were the bitter rivals partying together off the clock.

That was the same timeframe where ol Vincent was testifying in front of Congress that wrestling was completely fake and didn’t need to be regulated like an actual sport, no need for drug testing or safety equipment because it’s all fake right?

And the Congress critters are it all up. Never acknowledging that while the ending is predetermined, the path to get there is still incredibly physically demanding and a mistake could result in actual injury or death.

I 100% believed it was real. But then i turned 10 or so and me and my friends were wondering how this real man called the undertaker just got resurrected

I understood it was a show but somehow finding out Kane and the Undertaker aren’t brothers (and this happened recently too, lol) kinda fucked me up. 🤷😅

if you ever take a glance at the IWC on twitter (Internet Wrestling Community - yes I do watch pro wrestling) you’ll find that most still think it’s real.
